Iranian-Supported Proxy Groups Attack US Base in Syria

On March 24, 2023, Iranian-supported proxy groups in Syria launched an attack at a United States base in Northeast Syria. This attack came in response to airstrikes carried out by US forces earlier this week.

According to One America News Network,  initial reports point to no US casualties and no damage inflicted on the targeted based close to

Al-Omar oil field.

The US military carried out several airstrikes on March 23 in response to a drone strike that targeted a coalition base in Syria, which resulted in the death of an American contractor.

The Defense Department reported that Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) crashed an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) into a building close to Hasakah on March 23. The attack killed one American contractor, and left five US soldiers and a second US contractor wounded.

The Defense Department revealed that US forces carried out retaliatory airstrikes against facilities that are used by groups connected to the IRGC. One of the US strikes launched against an arms depot in the city of Deir el-Zour killed six Iranian-backed fighters. Another strike launched close to Mayadeen resulted in the deaths of two other fighters.

US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin announced that the airstrikes were carried out in relation to the attack on March 23 in addition to recent attacks that have targeted coalition forces in Syria. Per One America News Network, Iranian-backed forces have allegedly launched close to 78 attacks on US forces in Syria since January 2021.

“At the direction of President Biden, I authorized U.S. Central Command forces to conduct precision airstrikes tonight in eastern Syria against facilities used by groups affiliated with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC),” Austin announced. “The airstrikes were conducted in response to today’s attack as well as a series of recent attacks against Coalition forces in Syria by groups affiliated with the IRGC. As President Biden has made clear, we will take all necessary measures to defend our people and will always respond at a time and place of our choosing. No group will strike our troops with impunity.”

The group also said that the number of fatalities as a result of the strikes is expected to rise.

The United States currently has 900 military troops stationed in Syria. Having a US military presence this far away is geopolitical malpractice. When the southern border is being Zerg Rushed by illegal alien invaders it makes more sense to have that area militarized as opposed to stationing troops in far-off lands.

Honestly, if Iran gets a foothold in Syria, who cares? Iran is a well-established civilization state that’s going to exercise influence in the Middle East whether we like it or not. So it’s best to just let it bleed itself out in the Middle East.

In the meantime, the US needs to be shoring up its border security aka its primary national security concern.
