POLL: 63% of Americans Want FBI’s Censorship of Twitter Investigated

According to a Rasmussen poll released on December 26, 2022, 63% of likely voters believe Congress should investigate “whether the FBI was involved in censoring information on social media sites.” This comes in light of revelations from new Twitter CEO Elon Musk’s release of the “Twitter Files” which exposed the FBI’s involvement in censoring posts on Twitter and other social media platforms.
Only 22% are against such an investigation. An additional 15% indicated that they were undecided.
In addition, Rasmussen discovered that 63% “believe it is likely that the FBI encouraged social media sites like Facebook and Twitter” to “suppress, silence, or reduce the reach of certain political speech and speakers.” Around 27% said it was unlikely that the FBI didn’t attempt to infringe on political speech on social media, and 11% said they’re unsure.
46% have an unfavorable view of the FBI, while 50% view the FBI favorably, the poll demonstrated. Roughly 74% of Democrats have a favorable opinion of the FBI, whereas only 34% of Republicans hold the same view. Roughly 40% of Republicans, 28% of independent voters, and 10% of Democrats hold a “very unfavorable” opinion of the FBI.
This poll was published after various journalists published Twitter’s internal communications demonstrating that the FBI had long communications with Twitter’s previous leaders prior to Musk’s acquisition of Twitter.
Investigating the FBI is a good first step. The next moves should include defunding and eventually abolishing this abomination of a government agency. Allowing the FBI to continue to exist is just asking for further acts of tyranny to take place.
Taking the gloves off is a necessity in these trying times of despotism and institutional instability.
