Poll: 70% of American Voters Believe China Will Invade Taiwan

Two-thirds of American voters supported House Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s meeting with Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing-wen. Moreover, a greater proportion expect China to invade the island nation in the near future.

According to a recent Rasmussen poll, 70% of likely United States voters believe it’s likely that China will invade Taiwan in the next few years, which includes 38% who say such an invasion is very likely. Only 18% don’t believe a Chinese invasion of Taiwan is likely. An additional 11% are unsure. 

80% of Republican voters, 66% of Democratic voters, and 65% of independent voters think it is at least somewhat likely that China will attack Taiwan in the next few years.

Whether China will invade Taiwan in the next few years is anyone’s guess. For China, Taiwan is part of its historical civilizational space. In fact, it treats it like a rogue breakaway province that must be unified with the mainland. 

Any effort by the Collective West to militarize Taiwan or make it completely independent will be met with resounding force by China. For China, this is an existential matter which could put it over the edge. The sad part is that the DC uniparty is committed to this strategy of pursuing Taiwanese independence, consequences be damned. 

To be sure, there are many grievances America should air out with China on immigration and trade matters, but military confrontation should be out of the question. The US needs more realism and restraint, not interventionist idealism when it comes to how it conducts foreign affairs.
