Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko Believes NATO Nations are Spending Billions to Fight Imaginary Threat from the East

During a session of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Collective Security Council that took place on November 23, 2022, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said that governments of NATO countries are spending billions of dollars on imaginary threats from the East. Lukashenko believes that these countries are being incited by the United States government and that the US military-industrial complex benefits from this tension.
“Governments of NATO member-countries, incited by Washington, are willing to spend billions on the allegedly growing threat from the East, thus stimulating the US military-industrial complex,” Lukashenko said according to a quote that the BelTA news agency was able to record. Per the Belarusian strongman, countries that attempt to adopt an independent foreign policy always face tremendous pressure. “They are trying to put international organizations, including the UN, under their control,” Lukashenko stated.
In Lukashenko’s view, NATO has firmly decided to pursue an anti-Russian and anti-Belarusian agenda, which makes diplomatic communication virtually impossible now. He also noted that there is a heightened military presence of US and other NATO member nations at the CSTO’s western borders. He argued that these troops have been stationed there under the ostensive pretext of curtailing “the aggressive behavior of Russia and its allies.”
“The West continues to relocate troops, weapons and military equipment to the NATO eastern flank. The intensity of their operational and combat training activities is increasing. What is this but the development of a potential theater of combat operations?” Lukashenko stated.
In a concluding remark, Lukashenko highlighted how the recent move to deploy thousands of troops from Belarus and Russia was a “natural” response to NATO’s troop build-up on the CSTO’s western flank.
Despite Belarus pursuing a multi-vector foreign policy in previous decades that saw it play off Russia against the West, it is now firmly in Russia’s camp. Due to the anti-democratic nature of its government, which the Collective West categorically hates, Belarus is compelled to pact with Russia.
As the Collective West’s foreign policy becomes more fanatic and woke, Belarus will have to align itself with the Eurasian axis of China, Iran, and Russia — countries that operate on a more realpolitik basis and don’t use democratic criteria as a basis for forming diplomatic relations with foreign nations.
