J.D. Vance Opposes Bipartisan Gun Grab

Earlier this week, a bipartisan coalition of Senators cobbled together a civilian disarmament deal. Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell approved this proposal, a move that makes the passage of this anti-Second Amendment package much more likely.

However, Ohio Senate candidate J.D. Vance is against this proposal.

“From what I’ve seen of this bill, I would not support it,” Vance said on June 15, 2022 on a Breitbart radio show with Robert Kraychik. “I think the red flag laws, in particular, they certainly are a slippery slope. They also don’t solve the problem of gun violence.”

Although the legislation has yet to be released, Senate officials indicated that they have reached an agreement in principle. The agreement in question includes financial incentives for states to adopt their own red flag gun confiscation orders. The bipartisan deal also features tougher background checks for gun purchasers less than 21 years of age and stronger penalties for straw purchasers.

The 10 other Republicans who have signed on to this bipartisan gun control deal include:

John Cornyn (TX), Thom Tillis (NC), Roy Blunt (MO), Rob Portman (OH), Richard Burr (NC) , Mitt Romney (UT), Bill Cassidy (LA), Susan Collins (ME), Lindsey Graham (SC), and Pat Toomey (PA)

Interestingly, Nick Evans of the Ohio Capital Journal noted that none of those 10 Republicans who have accompanied McConnell in supporting gun control are not running for re-election in November. In many respects, these Republicans are likely falling on the proverbial grenade for other Republicans who would otherwise vote for gun control in a non-election year. The GOP still has a rabid pro-gun voter base that can could give flimsy incumbents headaches in the primaries or hurt them in the general election by sitting out.

In the interview, Vance conceded that the country has a “high gun violence rate,” but noted that the problem is primarily concentrated in the inner-city of several metro areas.

“So, in some ways it’s not even accurate to call it a gun violence problem,” Vance declared. “It is a violence problem that has gotten worse over the last few years, not because of more guns, but because of negative law enforcement.”

Few candidates will speak as lucidly as Vance will on Second Amendment matters. The fact is that most gun violence statistics are skewed in America due to the prevalence of this crime in major urban centers. After all, diversity is not a strength.

In this sensitive moment in its history, America needs leaders who will say uncomfortable truths and who are willing to stand for traditional American freedoms. J.D. Vance is part of the next generation of right-wing populists who have answered that call. Hopefully, others are inspired by his example.
