Illinois is the State with the Worst Unemployment Rate in the Nation

In a piece written by Ted Dabrowski and John Klingner at Wirepoints.org, Illinois now has an unemployment rate of 4.5%, per the most recent report coming from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Dabrowski and Klingner noted that these unemployment figures are not some random development. They argued that “This is what comes from pursuing policies that drive out companies like Boeing, Citadel, Caterpillar and Tyson.” Illinois is notorious for being a state that’s hostile to economic freedom and it’s not shy about making productive people’s lives miserable.
Figures from Illinois Governor JB Pritzker’s administration have attempted to spin these figures to downplay Illinois’s economic problems.
“Today’s data is a clear indicator that the Illinois labor market continues to remain strong and stable,” declared Deputy Governor Andy Manar.
Illinois is notorious for being a disorderly anti-freedom state as evidenced by its gun control laws, soft-on-crime policies, and pension crisis. According to Truth in Accounting, the Illinois state government “needed $236.1 billion to pay all of its bills, which breaks down to $57,000 per taxpayer,” thereby putting it in the fiscal “sinkhole” category.
Overall, things aren’t looking so bright in Illinois. Should Illinois not reverse course, more of its residents will likely seek greener pastures in red states such as Arizona, Florida, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas — just to name a few.
That’s the beauty of federalism. When one state becomes oppressive, people still have exit options and settle down in freer jurisdictions.
