Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko Praises 30 Years of Integration Between Belarus and Russia

On June 25, 2022, president of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko praised Russian President Vladimir Putin on the 30th anniversary of the creation of diplomatic relations between the two Slavic countries. Lukashenko placed emphasis on the positive results of moving towards integration.
“Our countries have traveled a long joint path during this time, laying a solid foundation for a comprehensive strategic partnership and deep integration,” declared in a statement that the BelTA agency quoted on June 25, 2022.
Lukasehnko views that productive cooperation between the two countries is “a natural process, predetermined by their geographical proximity, inextricable cultural and spiritual ties created over the centuries, and a common heroic past.”
“I am convinced that the strengthening of constructive interaction between Minsk and Moscow both within the framework of the Union State and as part of other interstate associations creates the necessary conditions for successfully overcoming global challenges and threats,” Lukashenko added.
Russia has recently promised to install Iskander-M nuclear-capable missiles in Belarus in efforts to bolster its defenses against the Collective West. This is part of a broader process of Russia bringing Belarus into its security fold through the establishment of nuclear missiles, bases, and troop deployments.
The end goal is likely the Union State integration project, where Russia would add Belarus into its federation. Lukashenko tried to pull this off in the 1990s in hopes that he could lead the Union State. The Belarusian leader’s machinations fell through after Vladimir Putin assumed the positions of Russian Prime Minister and President.
With Russia re-emerging as a regional power, Belarus has gradually moved into its orbit. Against the backdrop of the Russo-Ukrainian War, it’s only a matter of time before Belarus becomes a part of Russia.
