Thomas Massie is the Only Republican to Vote Against the Funding of the Iron Dome

On August 5, 2022 the Israel Defense announced a new military operation pursuing Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) militants in the Gaza Strip.
This operation had the aim of preventing a military escalation by PIJ following Israeli military forces’s capture of a leading PIJ commander. PIJ responded by launching several barrages of rockets towards Israel.
After these attacks took place many pro-Israeli sympathizers started gloating about the United States’ special relationship with the Jewish State. Namely, its intimate military cooperation where the US provides it with air defense systems like the Iron Dome.
One Twitter user, an Israeli-American by the name Moti Ankari posted about a military aid vote to fund Israel’s Iron Dome system. This vote took place on September 23, 2021 and Ankari tweeted about the officials who voted against the funding for this aid, “The Iron Dome saves lives.

Israel’s per capita GDP is $43,689 and boasts a total GDP of $402.64 billion. In addition, it’s renowned for its AI sector and overall technological development.
Honestly, why is a 1st world country like Israel still receiving copious amounts of military aid from US taxpayers? This is the million dollar question fanatic Israel Firsters have a hard time answering.
If they do answer it, they’ll hit you with the cliche trope that Israel is the only democracy in the Middle East and how we need to have it on America’s side to counter countries like Iran.
This ignores how Israel, and the majority of Middle Eastern countries for that matter, offers very little strategic value to the US. Plus, countries like Iran hardly pose a threat to the US.
By blindly attaching itself to Israel, the US increases the likelihood of getting drawn into a Middle Eastern conflict. Those are the many dangers of getting into entangling alliances in conflict zones such as the Middle East.
Thomas Massie is one of the few elected officials who advocates for a foreign policy of non-interventionism and restraint.
In this instance, he is absolutely correct in opposing foreign aid to Israel. Our elected officials must remember one thing: They should be serving the interests of the American people, not Israel.
