Vladimir Putin Says Economic War Against Russia Did Not Work

On September 12, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that Collective West’s economic sanctions war against Russia has failed colossally. According to TASS, Putin said Russia faced “financial and technological aggression, but the economic blitzkrieg against the country was not successful.”

“I would like to emphasize once again that Russia is confidently coping with external pressure, one might say – with financial and technological aggression from some countries. The tactics of economic blitzkrieg did not work, this is already obvious to everyone and to them,” Putin stated.

Putin continued that Russia “promptly implemented effective protective measures, mechanisms were launched to support key industries, enterprises, as well as small and medium-sized businesses”. Per Putin, all of these measures were designed to maintain employment and protect jobs, while also providing targeted assistance to people that were affected by the sanctions and the broader supply shocks the rest of the globe is facing.

Ever since Russia launched its special military operation in Ukraine on February 24, 2022, Russia has been subject to massive sanctions at the hands of the Collective West. This has forced it to pursue economically nationalist measures and pivot its trade and diplomatic relations to the East with countries such as China and India.

The world is changing. No longer are the US and Europe  the center of the universe. The world is becoming multipolar, which makes it more difficult for the Collective West to throw its weight around and dominate nations that don’t abide by its universalist strictures.

Will foreign policy decision makers in Washington DC, Brussels, and London actually pick up on this trend? If history has taught us anything, it’s highly doubtful they’ll come to grips with the new geopolitical realities.
