Gun Sales are Soaring in Oregon as New Gun Grab is About to be Implemented

AWR Hawkins of Breitbart News reported that gun sales have increased twofold in Oregon with Ballot Measure 114, the Reduction of Gun Violence Act, now on the verge of being implemented. The Oregon State Police are having trouble with meeting demand for background checks.

Per a KDRV report, BM 114 passed on a vote of 50.9% to 49.1%, and will go into effect on December 8, 2022.

BM 114 was largely funded by money coming from outside of Oregon. Under this measure, a permit, which costs $65, is required to buy a firearm. In addition, BM 114 prohibits “high capacity” magazines and requires law enforcement to keep a database of gun permit applicants.

In order to obtain a gun permit under BM 114, a person must submit fingerprints and pass a gun safety course, KDRV reported

According to an OregonLive report, thousands of Oregon residents are trying to buy firearms in anticipation of BM 114’s implementation date.

In the week of October 30th, Oregon state police “received 8,609 requests for gun background checks on prospective buyers.” The number of background check requests “more than doubled to 18,065” the following week, when the midterms took place.

Hawkins observed that “The surge in demand has led to state police falling behind in completing universal background checks, so that only 63 percent of pending background check requests have been approved.”

Oregon is one of the most hostile states towards gun rights in the Union. According to Guns & Ammo magazine’s Best States for Gun Owners rankings, Oregon is ranked 32nd in terms of how friendly it is towards gun owners. Assuredly, that ranking will only get worse as the state embraces more gun control.

In light of the passage of this gun control measure, the only options for Oregonians are either to leave the state or nullify this measure at the local level. That’s how things are going in blue states.
