Historic First: UK Allows a Million Foreign Nationals

The United States is not the only country that has to cope with a mass migration onslaught. The United Kingdom is being scrutinized for its alarming levels of immigration in addition to its large amounts of asylum applications ever since it left the European Union. Since consummating Brexit, the UK repealed free movement between European states and has implemented a points-based system.

According to a report by Owen Evans of The Epoch Times, “One million foreign nationals were let in to live in the UK last year for the first time in recorded.” Government statistics pointed out that these figures include family members, students, and workers.

Figures from the British Home Office that were released on May 26, 2022 hint at over a million foreign nationals being allowed to live in the UK from March 2021 to March 2022. In this timeframe, roughly 1.6 million visas and permits were granted. Of those visas granted, slightly over 600, were visitor visas.

On the asylum front, there was a significant number of asylum applications. In the year ending March 2022, there were 55,146 asylum applications. This represented a 56% increase from the number of asylum applications in the year ending March 2020. According to Evans, the asylum backlog has ballooned to almost 110,000 people.

Figures from Oxford University’s Migration Observatory revealed that 76% of asylum claims among young men in the age range of 18–29 were accepted in the year ending March 2022.

Among the top ten nationalities who applied for asylum, half have an asylum acceptance rate north of 80%. Afghanistan (91%), Eritrea (97%), Iran (88%), Sudan (95%), and Syria (98%) were among the most prominent nationalities that had high asylum application acceptance rates.

Evans noted that “This is higher than at the peak of the European Migration crisis (36,546 in the year ending June 2016) and is the highest number of applications for almost two decades (since 2003).”

Alp Mehmet, chairman of Migration Watch UK, said to The Epoch Times that “illegal immigration via the Channel is out of control and the present rate of three times that of 2021 for the same period, if it continues, could mean around 85,000 by year’s end.”

Mehmet added that the UK’s new points-based system “lowered the qualification and pay levels, removed caps, and abandoned the requirement to look to recruit locally first.”

“It effectively made it easier to recruit, with no limits, from 80 percent of the world. This is why immigration has increased and will go on increasing,” Mehmet added.

While the UK’s Brexit campaign should be applauded, it still has a lot of work to do when it comes to shaking off globalism.

Like most of the West, the UK has to deal with an existential crisis in mass migration. If it does not put the clamps on these migrant inflows, the UK will go down as another society that will fall down the path of civilizational disappearance thanks to its ruling class’s blind devotion to uncontrolled migration.
