Greek Officials Claim Turkey is Weaponizing Migrants Against Greece

According to Paul Joseph Watson of Summit News, several observers claim that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is weaponizing migrants against Greece. So far in 2022, 40,000 people have been prevented from breaking into Greece.
In this timeframe, the Greek Coast Guard intercepted roughly 40,000 migrants trying to enter the country from through the Aegean Sea.
“In the first four months of 2022, about 40,000 migrants tried to enter the country illegally,” Civil Protection Minister Takis Theodorikakos proclaimed.
According to several geopolitical experts, Erdogan is weaponizing migrants to lash out at Greece for trying to prevent the sale of upgraded American F-16s to Turkey.
Turkish Foreign Minister Mehmet Cavusoglu even threatened to engage in territorial disputes with Greece over its claim to several eastern islands in the Aegean Sea.
Immigration is more than just a movement of people. It can be exploited by states to project power abroad and even destabilize nations.
“The increased migrant flows are the first major surge since just prior to the Wuhan coronavirus pandemic when President Erdogan made good on prior threats to “open the gates” to Europe and allow migrants to make their way to Greece, with thousands attempting to cross the northern land border in Evros before it was shut down due to the pandemic outbreak,” according to a report by Chris Tominlson of Breitbart News.
Watson noted that Turkey’s weaponization of migration is nothing new. Greece had to put up with a massive deluge of migrants who entered the country largely from Turkey during the 2015-2016 refugee crisis.
This mass migration wave was contained after the European Union paid Turkey off with a 6 billion euro extortion fee to halt the immigrant influx. In addition, Turkish citizens received visa-free travel to Europe.
It’s hilarious that two NATO member nations could potentially be on the path to war. Turkey and Greece have been going at it in recent years. For example, in 2020, Turkey and Greece nearly butted heads over natural gas drilling rights.
These tensions will continue to rise as Turkey grows stronger and begins to flex its geopolitical muscles in the Mediterranean.
The US should obviously exit NATO due to how it no longer serves critical American interests and gets the US into potentially dangerous foreign policy entanglements, but it’s comical to see this alliance slowly unravel. Turkey has already thrown a major wrench in NATO plans to add Sweden and Finland into its fold. While Sweden and Finland will likely end up joining the alliance after Turkey extracts sufficient benefits from NATO members, this shows the very tenuous nature of this alliance.
The US should do everything possible to avoid getting caught in the geopolitical storms that are brewing across the globe. It’s not worth the blood and treasure.
