Six of America’s Major Cities Experience Notable Crime Increases

According to a report by One America News, 6 cities in the United States are on pace to surpass the violent crime rates they recorded in 2021. For some of these cities, their 2021 crime rates were at record levels.

Crime data points to Atlanta, Baltimore, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia, and Washington D.C. being on pace to top their violent crime levels in 2021.

New York City experienced a 26% surge in violent crime compared to the same timeframe in 2021. In Washington D.C.’s case, its violent crime grew by 8%. Philadelphia and Baltimore witnessed violent crime increases of 7% and 6.1% respectively. According to the data, homicides are largely pushing violent crime rates upward. Homicides grew by 30% from 2019 to 2020 and an additional 5% from 2020 to 2021. Homicides are also projected to increase in 2022.

Many criminology experts point to anti-police sentiment and soft-on-crime judicial approaches contributing to this uptick in crime.

Crime is a huge problem across the country. It’s something that can no longer be ignored. Voters in San Francisco luckily relieved radical District Attorney Chesa Boudin of the burden of holding higher office during a recall election on June 7, 2022.

However, much has to be done to fully restore order in our great country. Right-wing populists must now take up the mantle of law-and-order and unapologetically run on platforms that promote this vision nationwide. We can no longer afford to be soft on criminal activity that’s undermining our nation.
