Half of Voters Support the Overturning of Roe Wade

A new Rasmussen Reports poll showed that 50% of likely voters support the Supreme Court’s Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization ruling that overturned the landmark 1973 Roe v. Wade decision.

While more voters consider themselves pro-choice than pro-life, there is a substantial number of Americans who still agree with the federalist principles that undergird the overturning of Roe v. Wade

38% strongly approve of the Dobbs decision. As a result of this decision, states are now the primary entities tasked with handling abortion policy

45% of voters disagree with the Supreme Court’s new ruling, which includes 38% who strongly disapprove.

When it comes to Republican voters, 75% agree with the Dobbs decision. Only 20% disapproved.

71% of Democrats disapproved of the Supreme Court decision, but 25% approve. 53% of independent voters approved of the Supreme Court’s decision while 42% disapproved of it.

In total, 52% of voters view themselves as pro-choice, while 41% have pro-life beliefs. 78% of pro-choice voters disagreed with the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, while 88% of pro-life voters support the Supreme Court’s latest ruling.

75% of Democrats view themselves as pro-choice, in addition to 29% of Republicans and 49% of independent voters. 61% of Republicans, 21% of Democrats, and 41% of independent voters hold pro-life views.

Overall, the US has a solid pro-life base. While national pro-life legislaiton is unlikely to pass anytime soon, pro-life views are far from fringe. The Supreme Court got it right by overturning Roe v. Wade.

Hopefully, the Court starts striking down Civil Rights Revolution era measures such as affirmative action and anti-discrimination laws.  These policy changes are long overdue.
