Chinese Defense Minister Warns US that Taiwan is a Red Line in US China Relations

During a meeting with United States Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin in Cambodia, China’s Defense Minister Wei Fenghe declared that the question of Taiwan is a red line in US-China relations that should never be crossed.

“The Taiwan issue is the core of China’s key interests, as well as number one red line in Sino-US relations that must not be crossed,” Wei declared.

Wei emphasized that Taiwan is part of China, and the Taiwan question is “a private matter for the Chinese people.”

“No external forces have the right to interfere,” he cautioned.

The meeting between the two defense ministers occurred on the sidelines of the ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM) that was held in Siem Reap, Cambodia from November 21 to 23.

Taiwan remains a contentious issue for China, with the US Deep State and its allies in the Collective West are trying to exploit it for the purpose of maintaining its hegemony on the world stage.

While a sovereign Taiwan is preferable, the US should not go to war to maintain its sovereignty, especially when it involves a large nuclear power such as China.

Instead of promoting direct military conflict with China, the US should confront it over matters of trade and immigration, two activities that China has used to harm the US in one way or the other. None of this requires going to war with China.

Instead, tough diplomacy, and rational nationalist measures such as economic nationalism and immigration restriction can solve the China question without having to get into a thermonuclear conflict with it.
